Iannis Xenakis‘ Greek Polytopes
After 27 years of exile from his homeland, avantgarde composer Iannis Xenakis has returned to Greece where he has been welcomed as a hero. Not long after that, he begins to work on what was to be his last realized multi-media spectacle, Polytope de Mycenae, what he described as „a feast of light, movement, and music“. Set in the archeological site of ancient Mycenae, the happening included live and electroacustic performances, anti-aircraft search light, flaming torches, human voices and bodies, and even animals. Inspired by Greek history and mythology, this unique event crossed the borders between sound and space, past and present, national and universal.
